CALL
FOR MALE AND FEMALE VOLUNTEERS FROM THE COMMUNITY
TO PARTICIPATE IN
SETHU
A GLOBAL COLLABORATIVE WORK TO BE PERFORMED AT THE
O'SHAUGHNESSY AUDITORIUM
SEPTEMBER 22-24, 2006
NO
MUSIC OR DANCE EXPERIENCE NEEDED
Ragamala Music and Dance Theater is looking for men and women, ages 16 and up, to participate in the chanting chorus for Sethu (Bridge), a groundbreaking global performance work that combines Bharatanatyam, an ancient classical dance style from southern India, and Kecak, the powerful rhythmic chanting of Bali, to create a stunning presentation of the Indian epic Ramayana.
This acclaimed cross-cultural collaboration between choreographer Ranee Ramaswamy and Bali-based composer/choreographer I Dewa Putu Berata was first co-presented with the Walker Art Center in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden in 2004 for an audience of 5,500, and will be presented at the O'Shaughnessy Auditorium in St. Paul on September 22-24, 2006.
Take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study with Balinese master artist I Dewa Putu Berata, learn to chant the cak--a traditional Balinese vocal form--and perform with the dancers of Ragamala, a live south Indian orchestra, and the Gamelan Ensemble of the Indonesian Performing Arts Association of Minnesota (IPAAM)!
Workshops are open
to new participants, 2004 chorus members, and potential participants interested
in learning more.
