Ragamala's 2010 Tour of India

Soorya Festival
October 2-10, 2010
Kerala, India

As a part of the prestigious Soorya Festival in Kerala, India, Ragamala’s Sthree enjoyed eight very well attended performances and enthusiastic reviews and news articles in nearly every city. One audience member called the program “nectar for the eyes.”

To receive such responses from the learned audiences of India is a true honor—not only did they recognize Ragamala’s stage presence and firm command of technique, but they welcomed the company’s contemporary presentation of Bharatanatyam.

According to Mathrubhumi newspaper, one of Kerala’s leading publications:
“Ragamala Dance’s 7 dancers gave life to Sthree, a superb production. The show unfolded like a beautiful poem, and like a flower, the dancers blossomed on stage. As [the characters] danced, giving meaning to kama (love), khroda (anger), and karma (duty), Sthree became an epic in itself.
The divine elements Prakriti (primal matter, or nature) and Sakti, (sacred force or empowerment), converge in the deeply involved performance, offering a sublime, all-encompassing experience in Sthree.”

This engagement is supported by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation through USArtists International in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
