K-12 and Community Outreach

Ragamala's educational programs take students on a journey through ancient and modern India, through dance, music, and visual arts. Ragamala's programs provide a bridge between cultures, encouraging students to explore the arts and culture of India while teaching them to respect diversity.

Artistic Director Ranee Ramaswamy has been involved in educational programming since 1981. The company's presence has been felt in schools throughout of the country, from New Hampshire to Florida to Kansas to Colorado. At home in Minnesota, the company spends approximately 50 days per year working in schools and community centers, and is featured on the rosters of Young Audiences of Minnesota, the COMPAS Global Arts Program, the Minnesota State Arts Board's Arts Across Minnesota program, and the St. Paul, Chamber Orchestra's CONNECT program.

In Ranee’s own words, “I help children experience the arts of a civilization that has survived thousands of years from the dawn of history to the present. I want them to learn that it feels wonderful to be different."
