"Ragamala shows a way into the twenty-first century for all classical forms. The thrill that the dancers feel in their own strength and grace rolls across the audience; their happy and powerful beauty is one we understand and aspire to."

Sthree
Featuring a specially commissioned score
by
Dr. L. Subramaniam

Inspired by Silappathikaram (The Anklet), the national epic of the Tamil people of southeastern India, Ragamala Dance presents Sthree, a stunning convergence of dance, music, and text that brings to the present the beauty of the Sangam period of history.

Set to an original score by virtuoso vocalist Prema Ramamurthy and Dr. L. Subramaniam - unquestionably one of India's greatest classical violinists - Sthree is a haunting contemporary adaptation that explores the underlying tension between the principles of karma and dharma, the basis of the Hindu belief system.

Concept and Choreography by Ranee Ramaswamy and Aparna Ramaswamy
Specially Commissioned Score by Dr. L. Subramaniam
Original Compositions by Prema Ramamurthy
Written for the Stage and Directed by Zarawaar Mistry
