Introductory Class

Ragamala opens a new Introductory Class at least once a year. At this time, Ragamala is not offering an Introductory Class. To be placed on a wait list, or to inquire about scheduling, please call 612-824-1968 or email info@ragamala.net.

Upper Level Classes

Ragamala invites dancers with experience to audition for upper level classes. Please call 612-824-1968 or email info@ragamala.net for more information or to schedule an audition. Entry into upper level classes is by invitation only.

Tuition

Tuition (14-week session):
Introductory and Adavu Classes: $224
Upper Level Classes: $280

• An annual registration fee of $25 is due at the beginning of each fall session.

Ragamala School classes are offered by the session. With very few exceptions, students are required to sign up for a full session, which can run between eight and fourteen weeks. Drop-ins are not permitted.

Class Descriptions

Adavu: Students learn the basic vocabulary of Bharatanatyam, a series of 36 rhythmic movements called Adavus. In beginning Adavu classes, they learn the rhythms of the feet. In later Adavu classes, they learn the accompanying hand gestures and body movements.

Advanced Beginning: After mastering the basic vocabulary of Bharatanatyam, students are introduced to their first dance pieces (Alarippu and Jathiswaram)

Intermediate: Students learn increasingly complex rhythmic pieces (Thillana)

Advanced: Students are introduced to more intricate dance pieces (Varnam and Padams), through which they learn the technique of abhinaya (the narrative/expressive aspect of Bharatanatyam)
